Nothing’s ever black and white…
I don’t remember when I started watching the series “Suits”, but I do remember that it was recommended by one of my friends. At the start, I didn’t like this show because it was more about law and the system. But with some progress, each episode got interesting. On 14th May 2020, I completed this show and I had tears in my eyes; I never really wanted it to end. This show has taught me a lot and will always remain on my favourite list. Well, here are my favourite characters from the show and a few words about them:
“I don’t respond to threats, I make them.” — Jessica Pearson
Jessica Pearson: One of the most fearless women you can ever meet because she doesn’t respond to threats — that’s because she makes them. One of the best law firms was led by Jessica. She knows how to play the game very well, and is not afraid of losing too. She has got her employees’ back always and, truth be told, Harvey was her protege. Initially, she wasn’t impressed by Harvey’s protege Mike, but later she could see him as an asset for her firm. Jessica handled her professional and personal life well until she met Jeff Malone. She was fearless enough to take the blame and get disbarred. She worked so hard to balance her life with Mike’s secret, her blossoming romance and the walls she built for her firm. She was criticized for being a black woman. Men couldn’t stand her success because she broke the boundaries of being a stereotypical woman.
Harvey Specter: Harvey is known to be the “Best closer in Manhattan City”. He is known to win cases no matter what. Harvey is a character whom I loved right from the start of the show. He always says, “Loyalty is a two-way street; if I’m asking for it from you, then you’re getting it from me”, and that hit me hard because his words made a statement — that loyalty matters to define a person’s character. Some people think he crosses lines and that’s not a thing for a fair win, but I believe otherwise because Harvey does what he is great at. He does whatever he thinks is right and, let’s be honest, that’s what we all do. He kept his family close, and his friends closer. For him, his circle of friends was his true family. He always felt guilty for not forgiving his mother earlier, and that’s a lesson we got to learn from him — that time doesn’t wait for anyone, so forgiveness is one thing we can do to let go of it.
Mike Ross: A person blessed with a brilliant mind and a good heart, Mike Ross was the protege of the legendary lawyer Harvey Specter. Having been given a second chance to get his life on track, Mike started working at Pearson Hardman even though he didn’t have a law degree. However, the weight of his secret got balanced and he met his future wife in the firm, Rachel Zane. It was a big ordeal to maintain the secret, yet he won big cases and became a formidable lawyer. After the loss of his grandmother, Mike found the comfort of family with his colleagues. Mike was always backed by Harvey. He served two years in prison for his crimes, came out safe and sound, and married his girl. Having more interest in pro-bonos, Mike got an opportunity to fight a lawsuit for people against fortune 500 companies and eventually settled in Seattle with Rachel. Coming from nowhere, with Harvey’s guidance, Mike has reached this height helping people with his brilliant talent.
Donna Paulsen: The one and only Donna Paulsen, the mastermind of this firm and backbone for Harvey. There has never been a better secretary and COO than her. Her perfection goes beyond words. “I’m sorry if I don’t have a photographic memory. But my brain is too busy being awesome” is one of my favourite quotes of hers. She was always there for Harvey no matter what; she understood him better than himself. I have no words to describe how amazing Donna is, and how lucky Harvey is to have her in his life. She was a nice friend to Rachel and Mike and helped Louis in many ways when he couldn’t handle the pressure. Donna was a nice daughter, an amazing wife, a beautiful friend, and an awesome secretary and COO.
“You want to change your life? Change the way you think.” — Harvey Specter
Despite the fact that I have only mentioned a few characters, the show had a few others who were just exceptional. The reunion of this crew is something I would like to see, so let’s hope for the best.
Having to talk about this show, these characters have special talents in each of them, hailing from different backgrounds, united by their profession or connection to law, and becoming a family. The war waged was always against the firm because, even though people had personal opinions and differences, the firm’s need was always put first. Every difficult phase was endured with power, intelligence, strength and unity.
